EC disqualified 42 from contesting polls In a shocking event the Election Commission has disqualified 42 candidates of Tamilandu from contesting polls for three years. EC barred 10 candidates of 2011 Assembly elections and 32 who contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
The decision was taken by EC after the candidates failing to submit their poll expenditure. According to Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni announced that the candidates have failed to file their election expenditure within the specified deadline of election commission.
However, it was not known whether the candidates fought the polls on the ticket of a political party or independently. Before disqualifying them, notices had been issued to the candidates. EC disqualifies the candidates who failed to give satisfactory reasons for the delay. As per electoral law, EC shall disqualify a person if it is satisfied that a person has no justification for failure to furnish the details within the timeframe set by EC.
