Email inventor Is No More Email founder Raymond Samuel Tomlinson is no more. The American computer programmer who implemented the first email system died at the age of 74. Ray Tomlinson credited with inventing email in the 1970s and he is the one who first used @ symbol for the messaging system.It was Tomlinson who invented direct electronic messages in 1971. Before this users could only write messages to others on a limited network.
''Thank you, Ray Tomlinson, for inventing email and putting the @ sign on the map. #RIP,'' Google's Gmail team tweeted in its handle. The Internet Hall of Fame in their account of his work commented "Tomlinson's email program brought about a complete revolution, fundamentally changing the way people communicate. The exact cause of death was not yet confirmed but some reports saying that he was suffered from heart stroke. Tributes poured in from the online world.
