Basavatarakam adds new diagnostic facility Hyderabad, June 24 (INN): Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute as per its objective of having latest diagnostic and treatment facilities and equipments, has installed and introduced Gallium-68 PSMA & Gallium-68 DOTANOC PET-CT scans for a precise imaging of prostate cancer and neuro-endocrine tumors. BIACH & RI is one of the very few centres in the country to have this unique facility.
Gallium-68 PSMA PET-CT scan can be used for early diagnosis, primary staging, restaging and for assessing treatment response in prostate cancer. Recurrences of prostate cancer post-therapy can be picked up at very low levels of serum PSA. BIACH & RI is the first centre in the twin state to introduce this modality.
Gallium-68 DOTANOC PET-CT scan is used for primary diagnosis, staging, restaging, assessing treatment response and as a pre‐requisite for somatostatin based therapies in neuro-endocrine tumors. This is the second such facility available in the twin state.
According to Dr. A. Zakir Ali, Head of Department of Nuclear Medicine and Pet CT at BIACH&RI, the introduction of these two scans is going to bring about a significant change in the diagnosis and management of prostate cancers and neuro-endocrine tumors.
