IIM comes to Vizag & 5 cities The union Cabinet gave its approval for setting up of six new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in the country. These new IIMs will be located at Vishakhapatnam, Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur, Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar.
These IIMs, which will begin functioning from temporary campuses, will commence their first academic session from 2015-16. Each institute will start with an intake of 140 students. The HRD Ministry had earlier finalised the existing IIMs which would be mentoring the new ones. There are at present 13 IIMs in the country.
Meanwhile IIM-Vizag campus will be built in 300 acres at Gambheeram village. This is the first central premier institution that comes up in Andhra Pradesh state after bifurcation.
It's known that few days before Smrithi Irani laid foundation stone for Indian Institute of Management at Gambheeram village near Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam city in the presence of AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and others.
