TS Govt release Rs. 12 crore for Imams Hyderabad, July 8 (INN): The Telangana Government on Wednesday released Rs. 12 crore to pay Rs. 1,000 each honorarium to Imams and Maozans of 5,000 mosques in Telangana.
According to Special Secretary of Minorities Welfare Department Syed Omer Jaleel, the honorarium is being paid to Imams and Maozans of mosques as they were being paid very less salaries by the mosques' managing committees. He said the honorarium would be in addition to the regular salaries being paid by the managing committees.
Omer Jaleel said that the funds were being distributed through the State Wakf Board.
Meanwhile, the State Government has also released Rs. 14 crore for conducting Iftar parties and distribution of clothes among poor Muslims across the State on July 12. While the main official Iftar will be held at Nizam College Grounds, Iftar arrangements are being made at 100 important mosques in GHMC limits and main mosques in 95 other Assembly constituencies.
