Withdraw strike or face action: KCR Hyderabad, July 13 (INN): Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao warned of action against the GHMC outsourcing workers if they fail to withdraw the strike immediately.
During the review meeting held at the State Secretariat, KCR reviewed the impact of strike by the municipal workers, which entered eighth day on Monday. Stating that the State Government would consider their demand for revision of salaries, he warned that they would be sacked if they fail to join the duties on Tuesday morning. He said that the government would call Army, police and employees of other departments to take the cleaning works. He asked the striking workers to realise that they were not regular workers, but only outsourcing staff which can be replaced with immediate effect.
KCR also pointed out he himself has assured to revise the salaries of outsourcing employees while participating in the Swachh Hyderabad campaign. The process to revise the salaries of municipal employee has already been initiated. Instead of cooperating with the government, the workers fell into the trap of some trade unions and joined the strike.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar held a meeting with the striking unions at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. While stating that the demand for increase in salaries would be considered only if they call of the strike, he tried to leave the meeting hall. However, the employees gheroad the Commissioner and raised slogans against the government. He could come out only after intervention by the police.
On the other side, the striking unions have reiterated their resolve to continue the strike until the State Government all 16 demands raised by them. It has also been decided to intensify the strike. The workers would launch relay hunger strike from Tuesday onwards and will also gherao the residences of State Ministers. They also threatened to cut water supply to the residences of State Ministers.
