TRS, MIM leaders swindled Ramzan funds, alleges MBT Hyderabad, July 13 (INN): The Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) has alleged that the TRS and MIM leaders have swindled most of the funds that were meant for Iftaar and related arrangements.
MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan, in a media statement, alleged that the local MIM and TRS leaders did not allow the Masjid Committees to organise Iftaar parties on their own. No estimates were prepared and no quotations were called for any works. He said instead of calling short tenders, the procurement of fruits and items for Iftaar was done on nomination basis. Further, he alleged that almost all items that were purchased from the open market were over-priced. "TRS Government has helped its cadre grow rich or make some money in the name of Iftar parties. This is height of corruption," he alleged.
Amjed Ullah Khan demanded that the State Government issue a White Paper on the entire spending on Ramzan festival. While TRS and MIM leaders were assigned the jobs of arranging Iftar parties worth crores of rupees in GHMC limits, no checks-and-balances were set up in purchase of clothes for poor. He said an ordinary sari worth Rs. 60/- has been purchased for more than Rs. 100/. Most of the material has been supplied by a firm owned by a relative of a senior Muslim TRS leader. 'of Rs. 26 Crore sanctioned for Ramzan arrangements, the TRS and MIM leaders have swindled at least Rs. 15 Crore. The rest has been misappropriated. The funds have not reached the deserving poor Muslims," he said.
The MBT leader said that his party would file the RTI applications seeking complete details of spending done by the State Government in the name of Ramzan festival. "We are also in the process of collecting evidences of financial misappropriation and will certainly approach the court if the State Government refuses to order a high level probe," he said.
