Tragedy at Godavari Pushkarams; 12 died
The holy pushkarams had the most tragic beginning. Twelve persons, including several women died in the stampede at various Ghats at Andhra Pradesh
As per the reports 12 pilgrims were killed and eight injured in a stampede in one of Pushkar Ghat at Rajahmundry.
The tragedy occurred when a large number of pilgrims rushed towards one of the gates. The deceased were reportedly from Vizag and Srikakulam.Some people started climbing the first gate following which a stampede resulted and three women were severely injured.
The pushkaram, which is observed once in 12 years, this time is considered auspicious from astronomical point of view as it is Maha Pushkaram which comes once in 144 years. AP CM Nara Chandra Babu Naidu came with family and took a holy dip in the River today early morning. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao performed the holy bath at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district, kicking of the event in the state.
