CSK, RR suspended for 2 years from IPL '
In a massive blow to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) teams were suspended from the league for a period of 2 years. The punishment was handed down by a Supreme Court appointed three-member committee headed by former CJI R M Lodha .
The Supreme Court earlier had found both Meiyappan and Kundra guilty in connection with the IPL 2013 scandal. Lodha was appointed head of the sentencing panel in January after the Supreme Court had found Kundra and Meiyappan guilty.
The committee also banned Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for life from any cricket-related activity.Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful team in the IPL, having won the tournament in 2010 and 2011, and finished runners-up in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2015.Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural event in 2008 under the captaincy of Australian spin legend Shane Warne, but have failed to make the final since then. An outright ban on the two former champions would be a big blow to IPL.
