Shabbir Ali condoles Pushkaralu tragedy Hyderabad, July 14 (INN): Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede at Kotagummam Pushkar Ghat in Rajamundry on Tuesday.
In a media statement, Shabbir Ali blamed the Andhra Pradesh Government's negligence for the tragedy which claimed 27 lives while 60 others were injured in the incident. He said that the AP Government has failed to take enough precautions which claimed the lives of innocent pilgrims. He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was more focused on publicity while completely neglecting the safety of pilgrims.
Shabbir Ali demanded a high-level probe into the tragedy and stern action against those responsible for the incident. He also demanded that AP Government pay an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakh to the kin of each deceased. He said ideally, Naidu should resign from his post owing moral responsibility. However, the Chief Minister should at least tender a public apology for the incident.
The Congress leader also demanded that the both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governments take enough precautions to ensure that the 12-day Godavari Pushkaralu festival passes off peacefully without any untoward incident. Special teams should be deployed for better crowd management at all Ghats in both the States. He said safety and security of all the pilgrims should be given top priority and they must be extended all facilities.
