GHMC workers launch two-day hunger strike Hyderabad, July 15 (INN): Ignoring repeated appeals made by the State Government, thousands of GHMC workers began their two-day hunger strike camp at Indira Park here on Wednesday.
The GHMC workers agitation is being supported by 10 Left-wing organisations. Senior Left leaders including BV Raghavulu, Ch Venkat Reddy and others visited the hunger strike camp to express their solidarity with the workers. Earlier, the workers took a massive rally from Baghlingampally to Indira Park. They also set ablaze an effigy of State Government near RTC cross roads.
The State Government has assured to consider the demands only if they rejoin the duty. On the other side, the workers' union insisted that demands are considered only during agitations and not after they are withdrawn. The unions have also accused Labour Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy of trying to split the unions.
