Will lift garbage by Thursday: GHMC Chief Hyderabad, July 15 (INN): The accumulated garbage from the past nine days due to workers strike will be lifted and cleared by Thursday evening, assured GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar here on Wednesday.
The workers, who were on strike for the last nine days, have called off stir and reported to duty. GHMC deployed 397 vehicles belongs to Corporation,183 of hire and 416 vehicles allotted to Swachh units, 68 emergency vehicles and 12 vehicles from Town Planning and lifted 3,036 Metric tons of Garbage upto 3 PM compared to yesterday's 3,600 metric tons.
About 17,000 workers joined in duty out of 18,000 workers, 933 Sanitary field assistants out of 942 reported to duty. Stringent action is initiated against the drivers for
obstructing the work apart from removing 5 SFAs. From today onwards a special officer is deputed in each circle to look after the sanitation works apart from taking attendance of workers, no of vehicles in force etc. said the Commissioner& S.O. Further, the attendance of worker in all circles is at satisfactory except in one or two circles where the attendance is nearly 70%.
In the GHMC limits the worker of GHMC are not at all interested in participating the strike. Only some of the unions are on strike that too under the guidance of outside leaders. Action is being initiated against the offenders who are attacking the GHMC workers and restraining from work. With the attendance of 90 % workers now main focus on clearing of garbage that accumulated so far due to strike. After clearing the garbage, all efforts are being made from GHMC side with Government to solve the problems in a positive manner, said the Commissioner.
There is no support from the public representatives and public on the going workers strike for the past 9 days and with the alternative arrangements made by the GHMC in removing the garbage are at satisfactory and the public are not affected with the strike and by tomorrow evening the entire accumulated garbage will be lifted if any garbage is lying the public can complain to GHMC call centre to clear the garbage. The Commissioner & S.O. further said that the GHMC workers are like family members and the insurance for drivers raised to Rs.10 lakhs from Rs.2 lakhs, also for sanitation workers raised to Rs. 5 lakhs from Rs.1.00 lakh and other demands and grievances will taken into consideration in consultation with the Government, once all the workers called off strike, said Somesh Kumar.
