AP CS reviews Sagarmala Project Hyderabad, July 16 (INN): Sagarmala Project aims to simplifying procedures used at ports for cargo movement and to strengthening port and evacuation infrastructure in the coastal lines, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary I.Y.R.Krishna Rao said.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting on Thursday with the Addl. Secretary and Joint Secretary of Ministry of Shipping, Government of India to review on the progress of Sagarmala Project. It is a priority project for Government of India to design smart cities and utilization major ports in full capacity in the Country by developing hinterland linkages, he said.
The Government of India set up Sagaramala Development Company to enable project implementation, set up world-class PPP programmes in ports, waterways and connectivity projects, developing Indian Maritime University as a centre of excellence for maritime education, set up best in class maritime services clusters in India are the vision of Sagarmala Project.
An Apex Committee, Steering Committee headed by Cabinet Secretary, State-level Committee by Chief Secretary have been constituted and will be operationalize soon. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth will be enhanced through Sagarmala Project. To develop the Coastal Economy integrating the coastal economy with the ports through development of Coastal Economic Regions and projects with synergies to Coastal Industrial Corridors, development of port-based smart cities and other urban infrastructure to improve standards of living. Implementation of skill development, livelihood generation projects for coastal community development ' Coastal Tourism Development Projects and Fisheries Sector development are the potential benefits from Sagarmala project.
