Harish Rao asks officials to act against sand mafia Hyderabad, Aug 3 (INN): Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Monday directed the District Collectors to take measures to prevent illegal quarrying and sale of sand in Telangana State.
Addressing the video-conference with District Collectors and Joint Collectors here, Harish Rao said that the District administration should take stern action against the sand mafia. He advised that the District Vigilance and Enforcement Committee should meet once in every 15 days to review the situation. He said surprise raids should be conducted and action should be taken against those hoarding sand.
Meanwhlie, Harish Rao informed that the government has begun the process to acquire land for irrigation projects. He said the land would be acquired through GO No. 124. Stating that works were on at 13 irrigation projects across Telangana, the government would acquire about 600 acres of land for each project.
