Congress leaders held for protest at Assembly Hyderabad, Aug 5 (INN): Congress leaders, including Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy, were taken into custody by the Hyderabad Police when they tried to stage dharna before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Assembly premises on Wednesday.
The Congress leaders, including former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivek, Balram Naik and M Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLC Md Farooq Hussain and MLC A Sampath Kumar, gathered in the Assembly premises to stage dharna in protest against the suspension of Congress MPs from Lok Sabha. However, they were not allowed to go near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress leaders then came out of the Assembly premises and sat near the security railings.
Speaking to media persons, Gutha accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to suppress the voice of opposition. As the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, he recalled that Narendra Modi had run the Assembly proceedings by suspending the entire opposition MLAs. He alleged that the Prime Minister is trying to replicate the Gujarat model in Parliament.
Later, the Congress leaders were taken into custody by the police and shifted to Nampally Police Station.
