Officials asked to reach the target of LED bulbs

Hyderabad, Aug 5 (INN): In tune with the objective of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for making Andhra Pradesh as the most energy efficient state in the country and for providing quality, reliable and affordable power supply of 24X7 Power For All, the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) has proposed an unique 'AP Energy Five Star' program, which paves the way for considerable economic development of the state & the welfare of the public/consumers.

Accordingly, in line with European Union which has been implementing energy efficient methods since two decades, SECM while maintaining the existing tempo has proposed to develop a comprehensive Five year policy for Energy Efficiency & Conservation in the state for ensuring eradication of energy-inefficient electrical appliances in a phased manner to reduce the financial burden on the consumers. As part of this policy, as a first step, the Govt. has decided to issue instructions to all Depts. to procure electrical appliances such as Ceiling Fans, Air Conditions, Refrigerators & water pump sets etc, with 5 star rating mandatorily in the future procurements.

Disclosing the above significant developments during Executive Committee (EC) meeting of SECM Society held at AP Secretariat, IYR Krishna Rao, Chief Secretary & Chairman/SECM, Govt. of AP emphasized the need for the entire administrative machinery to be fully geared up to reach the target of CM in reducing the losses from existing 12% to single digit and ensure the completion of Energy efficient programmes like distribution of LED bulbs to domestic consumers as per schedule i.e., March2016. During the EC meeting it was proposed to the Govt. to constitute a state level steering committee headed by Ajay Jain, Secretary (Energy, I&I) with all commissioners/HoDs of major Departments, like MA&UD, Agrl., Industry, Panchayat Raj, R&B and School & Higher Education, Transport as members, for overseeing the implementation, monitoring and verification policy decision of Energy Efficiency through SECM society.

Secretary (Energy, I&I) has said that Expression of Interest (EOI) has been floated for engaging third party agency for conducting field survey for Annual Monitoring of Energy Savings in the districts covered in DELP-Stage-I. Several firms/Academic institutions for each DISCOM have participated to conduct the survey. Bid evaluation is under process. K. Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO informed that as per the directions of the Govt. the power utilities have focused on energy efficiency programmes in generation by commissioning super critical thermal boilers units for 2X 800 MW at Krishnapatnam power station.

A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, CEO/SECM has submitted a detailed report on his recent visit to Paris, explaining the advantages of advanced technologies and better practices of European Union countries in enhancing energy efficiency for the betterment of the society, which was resulted in substantial economical development of these countries and replicated the same for applying to energy efficiency activities in AP.

It was also decided in the meeting to create separate Energy efficiency cells in the above depts. to pursue the activities of Energy efficiency/Conservation duly monitoring nodal officers from each dept. The action taken will be monitored during the periodical meetings of the Chief Secretary with all the Secretaries. K.Ranganatham, Advisor, Energy, CMDS of DISCOMs Mutyala Raju and H.Y.Dora and Addl. Secretary (Energy), Rahul Pandey have participated in the meeting.
