Congress activist attempts suicide over AP's Special Status Tirupati, Aug 8 (INN): In a shocking incident, a 41-year-old man attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze demanding Special Status for Andhra Pradesh State.
The victim, identified as Munikoti of Manchal in Tirupati, doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire during a protest meeting organised by the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee demanding that the Centre grant special status for AP. He suffered about 95% burns. Another person, Seshadiri, who tried to extinguish the fire, also sustained burns. Koti was immediately rushed to CMC Hospital located in neighbour Veluru of Tamil Nadu.
Senior Congress leaders including APCC President Dr. N. Raghuveera Reddy, former union ministers K Chiranjeevi, Pallam Raju, Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and others, who were present at the protest site, were shocked over the incident. They appealed to the Congress workers not to resort to extreme steps like suicides.
