Amaravathi selected for AMRUTH development The Union government which recently assigned number of cities to be nominated from each state under its AMRUTH project now includes AP proposed capital Amaravathi in the list.
A total of 31 AP Cities have been selected for development under the Atal Mission and Urban Transformation (Amruth) initiative. Apart from proposed AP Capital Amaravati, 11 Corporations and 19 Municipalities have been included in the development programme.
Apart from Amaravathi the municipal corporations to be covered under this scheme from AP are' Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kurnool, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Eluru, Kadapa, Anantapur and Nellore.
Municipalities to be covered under this scheme : Chittoor, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Hindupur, Bhimavaram, Ongole, Gudivada, Machilipatnam, Tenali, Tadepalligudem, Proddatur, Madanapalle, Guntakal, Dharmavaram, Narasaraopet, Tadipatri, Nandyal, Chilakaluripet and Adoni.
In the case of Telangana, 11 Cities were part of Amruth initiative. This include four corporations (GHMC, Warangal, Nizamabad and Karimnagar) and seven municipalities (Nalgonda, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahbubnagar, Adilabad, Miryalaguda and Ramagundam).
The Government of India will develop these cities / towns with special focus and funds. At the all India level, 100 smart cities and 500 AMRUT cities will be developed.
Tamil Nadu secured 33 cities while Karnataka bagged 29 cities and Kerala have seven.
AP officials said that the residuary state will get about Rs 2,000 crore for the scheme over a period of five years and the funding will begin from the next financial year.
