Centre to showcase AP's Energy practices


 
Hyderabad, Aug 12 (INN): Enthused by the major impact created by the LED Street Lights project in Vizag, at various for at national and international level, and recognizing the pro-energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency activities of Andhra Pradesh, the Government of India has swung into action by deputing High level Team of Officials of Ministry of Power headed by B.P Pandey, Additional Secretary, Power, GoI for personally visit the Visakhapatnam city and study the impact of LED technology in Efficient street lighting.

The main objective of the visit of the GoI team will be to showcase the successful model of Vizag Efficient LED street lighting system by making micro level analysis towards energy and economical savings.

Disclosing these details to Energy Secretary Ajay Jain in a special communication, Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) (a joint venture company of four big Central Power Sector Utilities, NTPC, PGCIL, PFC & REC) GoI informed that the GoI has adopted short term and long term programmes through comprehensive action plan for replacing the Sodium vapour street lights with Efficient LED Street lights by investing substantial amounts of money which also paves for controlling temperatures and providing cool lighting in Major cities / Smart Cities of the country. This project is called Street Lights National Programme (SLNP) and in the first phase about 90 Lakh Street Lights are to be retrofitted with energy efficient LED street lights. Very recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of State (i/c) Power, GoI, Piyush Goyal have categorically directed Secretary, Ministry of Power, Pujari for ensuring substantial energy savings and achieving economical sustainability ofurban local bodies. Consequent to the orders of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Power through EESL, has initiated stringent steps for commissioning the 90 Lakhs of LED street lights in India in the first phase and study the best practices at National and International level for improving the street lighting system for which, will also enhance the quality of life to the people.

As part of this major initiative, the Central Govt., has decided to study the globally recognized Energy Efficient LED street lighting System of Visakhapatnam, said Saurabh Kumar. In the entire country the EESL has so far installed 2.4 Lakh LED street lights where as in AP with unstinted support of the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Minister of MA & UD, P. Narayana, EESL was able to complete the installation of over 1.54 Lakhs LED street lights (93,000 in Vizag and 61,000 LED street lights in other ULBs in AP) Saurabh Kumar said.

Welcoming the major initiative of GoI, Ajay Jain, said that all arrangements would be made for the visit of top officials of MoP to Vizag on 14th August including the personal inspection & monitoring of the energy efficiency activities. AP Govt will make a detailed power point presentation on these programmes to highlight the achievements as success stories, during the visit of said team. Due to the full encouragement of the state govt and the public, the Energy Conservation/ Efficiency activities are in top gear in AP and have been recognized Globally. The ultimate objective of the SECM, Govt of AP will be to distribute the fruits of Energy conservation to the electricity consumers by realizing the commendable energy savings potential of around 11,400 MU per annum, said Ajay Jain.
