Nayani promises to extend Rs. 5/- meal scheme
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (INN): Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy has announced that the Telangana Government would extend the Rs. 5/- per meal food scheme at 100 centres in near future.
Speaking after inaugurating the centres at Bagh Lingampally and Ram Nagar areas on Friday, Nayani said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was keen to promote Rs. 5/- per meal scheme and soon it would be extended to new centres. He also claimed that KCR has kept his promise by increasing the wages to the outsourcing sanitary and other workers from Rs. 8,500/- to 12,500/. He said KCR has a vision to make Hyderabad, a slum free city. For the same purpose, 1.20 lakh pattas have been issued to the poor in the recent past. He said that the State Government has allocated Rs. 200 crore for the 'Swachh Hyderabad' programme.
Musheerabad MLA Dr. K. Laxman said that the Rs. 5/- per meal scheme was directly benefitting the poor people, especially those who visit the city from different parts of the country for some work or in search of livelihood. He said many unemployed youth were benefitting from the scheme at the centre located in City Central Library.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said presently 12,000 people were benefitting from the scheme every day. The GHMC aims to extend the benefit to 30,000 people in near future.
Later, Nayani, Dr. Lakshman and other officials visited some of the slums near Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram at Bagh Lingampally.
