Sadanand Goud asks youth to take up litigation lawyering Hyderabad, Aug 16 (INN): Union Minister for Law and Justice V. Sadananda Goud on Sunday urged the young talent from National Law School to take up litigation lawyering and not confine themselves to practice in Corporate Offices.
Addressing the 13th Annual Convocation of NALSAR University of Law, Goud equated the rush of the graduates from various National Law Schools to corporate offices with 'brain drain'. He emphasized on the need of improving legal research in the country with innovative ideas. He urged the National Law Universities to specialize in the frontier areas of law. Hinting the efforts of the current government to turn India into a 'hub of international arbitration', he urged the students to be well versed with domestic as well of international law. He also urged law schools to impart continuous legal education to lawyers so that they keep themselves updated. He advised the passing out graduates and the current students to transform themselves into ethical professionals and work towards speedy resolution of disputes.
Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad and Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law presided over the convocation. In this ceremony renowned human rights lawyer and activist was awarded LLD (Honoris Causa) by the University.
The Union Minster, in his convocation address, appreciated the National Law Schools, which have transformed legal education in the country and made them at par with IITs and IIMs. He wanted the traditional Law colleges spread over the country to emulate the National Law Schools for a real improvement in legal fraternity.
In his welcome address Prof. (Dr) Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law presented the University Report for the year 2014-2015. The Vice-Chancellor reported that NALSAR offers highest number of elective courses in India amongst all law universities. He further informed that highest number of Ph.Ds were awarded this year. Sanya Samtani, the graduating student was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for pursuing her studies at Oxford University. Sourav Roy got the Commonwealth Scholarship. He further reported that the student moot teams reached quarter finals at the International founds of the Phillip C Jessup Moot Competition this year and Asia Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.
