KCR launches 'Grama Jyothi' at Gangadevipally Hyderabad, Aug 17 (INN): Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao launched the ambitious 'Grama Jyothi' programme at Gangadevipally village in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district here on Monday.
The Chief Minister formally launched the scheme by lighting the lamp in the presence of Assembly Speaker S Madhusudan Chary, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Lok Sabha MP B Vinod Kumar and other TRS leaders and senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, KCR said that the 'Grama Jyothi' was aimed at planned development of villages across the Telangana State. He said, probably for the first time, the villages were being empowered to plan and execute development programmes on their own. He praised the residents of Gandgadevipally for becoming an ideal for other villages. Announcing a special grant of Rs. 10 crore for the village development, he assured that the amount would be released on August 18 itself.
The Chief Minister asked the villagers to prepare a comprehensive plan for the development and seek funds while taking full accountability on their spending. He also assured to construct a residential school and provide other amenities in the village. He even compared the Gangadevipally village to Telangana movement and said he had achieved statehood without caring for the obstructions and criticism. He said that the 'Grama Jyothi' would provide complete self-sufficiency to the villages.
KCR said that the State Government proposes to spend Rs. 25,000 crore on the development of villages in the next four years under 'Grama Jyothi' programme. He said that the entire process of development has been decentralised and different committees would be formed for each village to implement the development plans. He said that the 'Grama Jyothi' was the most comprehensive programme for the development of rural areas.
