AP mulls welfare benefits for workers in unorganised sector Hyderabad, Aug 21 (INN): To increase efficiency of claim settlement process and increase the penetration of insurance for unorganised workers in the state, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said a call centre will be entrusted with verification and monitoring of claims.
"Set up a call centre that will monitor the penetration and seek/verify data of families. The Labour Department also has been asked to create a wing exclusively to monitor the scheme," the Chief Minister said during a review meeting on labour policies in Vijayawada today.
Under the Transport drivers insurance scheme, the Chief Minister said that the call centre can collect data on their children from drivers and the government can offer scholarships to the children of those who have registered under the scheme.
The call centre will be connected with the control room which will continuously take interventions and remedial steps as soon as they receive complaints/grievances from beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister has directed the department to also come up with an action plan on welfare programs such as housing scheme and skill upgradation programs for organised and unorganised sector.
Of the total 2 crore unorganised workers in the state, data of 71.6% of workers have been registered under the Unorganised Workers Social Security Scheme launched by the Chief Minister in May this year.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the penetration of insurance in the last 4 months, the Chief Minister said that settlement process has to be quickened in the way it was settled for the victims of Dowleswaram accident (within a week) which claimed the lives of 3 drivers among others.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure that insurance cover for natural death beRs 1.5 lakh and for accident death be given Rs 3 lakh by integrating the state scheme with National Family Benefit Scheme.
Minister Acchan Naidu, joint Secretary to CM Pradyumna, Secretary and Commissioner of the department were present.
