Rural areas did not achieve desired growth: KCR Hyderabad, Aug 24 (INN): Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Monday expressed concern over lack of development in rural areas even after seven decades after independence.
Addressing a meeting at China Mulkanoor in Chigurumamidi mandal of Karimnagar district as part of 'Grama Jyothi' programme, the Chief Minister said that the rural areas could not achieve desired development due to various factors. He said sanitation was in extremely bad shape in almost all villages. Stressing the need for planned development, he hoped that the 'Grama Jyothi' programme would provide a facelift to all the villages of Telangana State.
KCR said women were not given their due share although they constitute nearly 50% of the total population. He said women could play a vital role in country's development. He also urged the villagers to work unitedly to achieve growth and development. He briefed them about the modalities of 'Grama Jyothi' programme and said different committees would be constituted for planned development.
KCR reiterated that all households in the State would get tapped water supply in the next two years. He said a water grid was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 40,000 crore.
Finance Minister Etala Rajender, Cultural Committee chairman and MLA R Balakishan, Government Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar, Zilla Parishad Chairman T Uma, Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar, MLAs Satish Kumar, G. Kamalakar and B. Shobha, MLC P Sudhakar Reddy, Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary Raymond Peter and other officials were also present.
