Minister accuses opposition of politicising liquor policy Hyderabad, Aug 24 (INN): Telangana Excise Minister T. Padma Rao on Monday accused the opposition parties of creating unnecessary controversy over the cheap liquor policy proposed to be implemented by the State Government from October 1.
Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat here, the minister said 'Gudamba' (illicit liquor) has been claiming several lives across the State. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has decided to introduce cheap liquor to wage a war against 'Gudamba'. He dismissed the allegations of opposition parties that the government was proposing to sell cheap liquor at all kirana shops.
The minister claimed that the cheap liquor was aimed at protecting the health of poor people. He clarified that the government would reduce the tax on each liquor box from Rs. 1800 to Rs. 700 to ensure quality liquor to common people. He said that the cheap liquor is the regular one and there were no plans to manufacture a new brand. He also claimed it was not dangerous like 'Gudamba'.
