15th Basheerbagh firing anniversary observed Hyderabad, Aug 28 (INN): Leader of different political parties on Friday observed the 15th anniversary of the police firing at Basheerbagh and paid tributes to those who were killed while protesting against the power tariff hike by the then Telugu Desam Party Government.
Leaders belonging to Congress, CPI and CPI (M) paid tributes to the martyrs by garlanding their portraits. Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, APCC and TPCC presidents Dr. N. Raghuveera Reddy and N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CPI leader Narayana, CPM leader BV Raghuvulu and other leaders participated in the programme.
Recalling the incident, they said three farmers were killed and several others were injured when they held protest against the hike in power tariff. Jana Reddy said that the previous Congress Government helped the farmers and ensured free power while waiving off their energy dues. He said that the present TRS Government was following the path adopted by the TDP. He said that the opposition parties would be forced to launch massive agitation if the TRS Government does not change its "anti-farmer" policy.
