Harish Rao defends change in project design Hyderabad, Sept 7 (INN): Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has strongly defended the State Government's decision to change the design of Pranahita-Chevella Irrigation Project.
Addressing a review meeting on Pranahita-Chevella and Palamuru Lift Irrigation projects here on Monday, Harish Rao said that the previous Congress regime did not complete a single irrigation project in Telangana during its 10-year rule. He said that the Telangana leaders of Congress party remained mute spectators to the injustices done by the Seemandhra leaders. He said no objections were raised to the illegal construction of Potireddypadu and Pulichintala projects.
Harish Rao said that the change in Pranahita-Chevella project would benefit the entire State and would irrigate 2.75 lakh acres in Ranga Reddy district alone. However, he said that the Congress leaders were opposing the change in design as they fear that if TRS Government completes all the pending projects, then their political future would be at stake. Of 24,000 acres required for the project, the previous regime did not acquire even 24 acres and not even Rs. 26 crore were spent on the project.
Transport Minister Mahender Reddy, District Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
