TPCC demands Agriculture Emergency Hyderabad, Sept 10 (INN): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson D. Sravan Kumar demanded that the State Government declare Agriculture Emergency in view of increasing number of suicides by farmers.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday, Sravan Kumar alleged that the State Government did not take any measures to prevent farmers' suicide. He alleged that nearly 1500 farmers committed suicide since the TRS Government came to power. He said that the government had spent Rs. 600 crore on Godavari Pushkarams, Rs. 500 crore on police modernisation, Rs. 10 crore on Bathukamma celebrations and made similar expenditures. However, it did not take any steps to exend financial help to farmers.
The Congress leader said that the government should declare Agriculure Emergency and depute one minister for each district to prevent further suicides. He also demanded that the government increase compensation under GO 421 from Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.
