2006 Mumbai blasts verdict out after 9 years Nine years after the bomb blasts a special MOCCA court on Friday convicted 12 out of 13 people alleging their role in 2006 Mumbai Train bomb blast case. They will be sentenced on Monday next.
The RDX bombs were kept in pressure cookers and placed in trains on Mumbai and the high intensity blasts left 189 people dead and more than 800 injured. Pressure cookers were used in these bombing and other recent explosions to increase the afterburn in a thermobaric reaction, more powerful than conventional high explosives. Seven blasts ripped through trains in the evening rush hour on'11 July 2006.
Delivering the verdict, the Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge Yatin D Shinde pronounced 12 accused as guilty while acquitting one accused Abdul Wahid Shaikh (34) in the case.
The prosecution examined 192 witnesses, including police officers and bureaucrats. Arguments for the quantum of sentence are likely to begin on Monday.The guilty face the death penalty or life in prison.
Kamal Ahamed Ansari (37), Tanvir Ahmed Ansari (37), Mohd Faisal Shaikh (36), Ehtesham Siddiqui (30), Mohammad Majid Shafi (32), Shaikh Alam Shaikh (41), Mohd Sajid Ansari (34), Muzzammil Shaikh (27), Soheil Mehmood Shaikh (43), Zamir Ahmad Shaikh (36), Naveed Hussain Khan (30) and Asif Khan (38) were convicted for these blasts..
