MIM decides to enter poll fray in Bihar Hyderabad, Sept 12 (INN): The All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) will contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in Bihar.
Addressing a press conference at MIM Headquarters Darulsalaam here on Saturday, MIM President announced that MIM would field its candidates only in Seemanchal region, which is spread across four districts and 40 Assembly constituencies. However, a decision is yet to be taken on number of seats to be contested. He said that Seemanchal was the most backward region of Bihar and it remained neglected under the rule of Congress, RJD and other parties. He said that Dalits and Muslims constitute nearly 70% of the total population in Seemanchal region. He said that the MIM would demand Regional Development Council under Article 371 and a Special Package for the region.
Asaduddin Owaisi said that the MIM would contest the elections alone without having any alliances with other parties. He said that the polls would be contested on the development agenda and not on communal basis. He dismissed speculations that MIM's entry would benefit BJP. He asked whether BJP's victory on more than 280 seats in 2014 elections was due to MIM. He said such allegations were being leveled by the Congress and other parties to hide their failures.
The MIM chief also announced the appointment of former MLA Akhtar-ul-Iman as the President of MIM's Bihar unit. Bihar Congress former spokesperson Aftab Ahmed and educationists Mazhar-ul-Hassan too has joined the party and they were present in the press conference.
Meanwhile, Owaisi also condoled the death of Haj pilgrims in the Makkah tragedy and wished speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.
