Ponguleti demands new agriculture policy Hyderabad, Sept 14 (INN): Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday demanded that the Telangana Government come out with a new agricultural policy to prevent farmers from committing suicide.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office here, Ponguleti said that both Central and State Governments have failed to help the farmers, who were first hit by drought and then unseasonal rains. He said neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao spoke about the farmers' suicides across the country, especially Telangana. He pointed that the previous UPA regime waived off crop loans of Rs. 72,000 crore to pull out the farmers from crisis. However, the farmers have been left to their fate by both Central and State Governments.
Ponguleti said that the Congress party would pressurise the government to introduce a new agriculture policy during the forthcoming session of Assembly and Council.
