Farmers Suicides: CLP demands Rs. 5 lakh compensation Hyderabad, Sept 15 (INN): The Telangana Congress Legislature Party on Tuesday demanded that the State Government pay a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of those farmers who committed due to farm related reasons.
Speaking to media persons after the CLP meeting in Assembly's Committee Hall here, CLP Secretary T. Ram Mohan Reddy informed that the CLP has passed a resolution seeking compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for farmers' families. He said that the State Government should revise GO 421 to increase the compensation amount from present Rs. 1.5 lakh. Expressing deep concern over the rising suicides by farmers, the CLP slammed the TRS Government for not taking appropriate measures to stop the suicides.
The CLP also demanded that the forthcoming Assembly session should be held for 20 days. Ram Mohan Reddy said that the Congress party would make this demand during the meeting of Business Advisory Committee. He said that the CLP asked the State Government to continue welfare schemes launched by the previous Congress regime.
During the three-and-a-half hour meeting, the CLP also discussed the failures of TRS Government, especially in the education sector. It accused the TRS Government playing with the lives and careers of thousands of students by not implementing the Fee Reimbursement scheme.
Congress MLC MS Prabhakar said that the CLP also condemned the government for not implementing the promise of giving 12% reservation to Muslims and Scheduled Tribes.
The CLP meeting was attended by Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MPs Gutha Sukhender Reddy, R. Anand Bhaskar and MA Khan. However, MLAs DK Aruna, Chintala Rammohan Reddy and G. Chinna Reddy and MLC Santosh Kumar skipped the meeting.
