Dubai Ruler's Son Dies of Heart Attack at 33 33-year old son of the Gulf emirate's(DUBAI) ruler passed away today with heart stroke and he was just 33. Sheikh Rashid, Son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, suffered a heart attack on Saturday morning and died.In addition to his role as Dubai ruler, Sheikh Mohammed is vice president and prime minister of the UAE.
Sheikh Rashid was the first son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his senior wife, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bins Juma Al Maktoum. Sheikh Rashid was an avid sportsman and horse racing enthusiast. His younger brother Sheikh Hamdan is Dubai's crown prince.
Sheikh Rashid was a well-known sports figure in the UAE. He participated in a number of International and local Endurance competitions winning a number of laurels for the country. His greatest achievement was winning 2 Gold medals in the 2006 Doha Asian Olympics 120 km Endurance individual mixed as well as 120 km Endurance Team Mixed events. In January 2008 Sheikh Rashid was appointed President of the UAE Olympic Committee.
The burial of late Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will take place at Umm Hurair cemetery in Bur Dubai this evening.A three-day mourning period has been declared in Dubai. UAE flags will be flown at half mast during the mourning period.
