Hike in ex-gratia will lead to more suicides: TDP Hyderabad, Sept 20 (INN): Telangana TDP Legislature Party leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao has expressed apprehensions that increase in compensation to Rs. 6 lakh for the farmers who committed suicide might lead to more number of such incidents.
Speaking to media persons here, Errabelli said that the Telangana Cabinet did not take a serious view of the incidents of suicides. Instead of taking steps to prevent suicides, the cabinet merely increased the compensation amount. He said that the cabinet did not even discuss the measure to help the families of farmers who already committed suicide.
Errabelli informed that the TDP delegation would call on Union Agriculture Minister on September 22 to make a representation on the farmers' suicides.
TDP leader Ravula Chandrashekar Rao asked the TRS Government to clarify its policy on farmers.
Earlier, the TDP leaders held a meeting at Errabelli's residence to discuss the issue. The meeting was attended by senior leaders including L. Ramana, M. Narasimhulu, Peddi Reddy, Mohan Rao and others.
