TDP Won 2 seats in Andaman elections Telugu Desam Party have shown an impressive performance in Andamar Nicobar municipal elections, results of which were declared'today.' The elections for the Port Blair Municipal Councils were conducted on September 19 th and TDP contested for total number of 18 seats.
Out of 18 TDP won at two places in the elections and' surprisingly TDP stood at second position in 16 wards. The TDP had already secured one seat in the municipal council of Port Blair which has over 50,000 Telugus. The TDP had conmtested' 18 out of the 24 seats for which polls was be held on' last Sunday .
Elections were held for 24 palces and BJP bagged majority of seats (10) while congress adjusted with six. While TDP took third slot with 2 seats, DMK, AIDMK won one seat each. A large number of people from north coastal Andhra Pradesh are settled in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. People from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts migrated to the islands.
The victory in Andaman and Nicobar islands could be seen as launch pad for the party's foray into national politics, according to senior leaders. The' decision is seen as a major step in the party's efforts to secure the national party status.
