Legislature pays rich tributes to Dr. Kalam Hyderabad, Sept 23 (INN): Both the Houses of Telangana Legislature paid rich tributes to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on the first day of monsoon session of Legislative Assembly and Council.
While the condolence motion on Dr. Kalam in Assembly was moved by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, in Legislative council, Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari introduced the motion.
Speaking on the condolence motion, KCR said Dr. Kalam ignited young minds till he breathed his last. He said his life would continue to inspire over a billion Indians. He reiterated the demand for naming of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) after Dr. Kalam in recognition of his yeomen services to the nation, especially in defence sector and space research.
Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, Finance Minister Etala Rajender, TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao, BJP Floor leader Dr K Lakshman, MIM MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri and other MLAs also paid rich tributes to Dr. Kalam. The Assembly also passed a motion condoling the death of Narayankhed MLA and Public Accounts Committee chairman P. Kista Reddy. Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary then passed the condolence motion.
The members observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect for Dr. Kalam and Kista Reddy.
In Legislative Council, besides Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari, Leader of Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir and members of all political parties paid tributes to Dr. Kalam while Council Chairman Swamy Goud was on chair.
Later, Congress MLCs held a separate meeting and observed two minutes silence to pay tributes to Kista Reddy.
