At least 310 worshippers were killed while over 500 were injured on Thursday morning in a stampede during Haj pilgrimage in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca. The fatal incident was happened during the devil-stoning ritual. Rescue operations were under way and two teams of medical screening have been set up at the site of the incident
It was not clear what had caused the stampede but some reports saying that some unknown rumours leading to massive commotion in the complex. As per reports the' stampede took place at Street No 204 at a place in Mina which lies between Mount Arafat and Mecca Grand Mosque.
Today'is the last date of Haj pilgrimage and as per reports a total of 13,74,206 foreign pilgrims have arrived for Haj this year. However this is not the first time in Mecca to experience this type of stampedes. In 2006, on the same day of stoning the devil, nearly 360 people were dead in a stampede.
