Ponguleti demands new Agriculture Policy Hyderabad, Sept 26 (INN): Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday demanded that the TRS Government announce a new Agriculture Policy to provide relief to farmers who were hit due to ongoing agrarian crisis.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here, Ponguleti accused the State Government of not extending required help which pushed nearly 1500 farmers to suicide. He also condemned Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu's criticism on AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. He said by criticising Rahul Gandhi, Venkaiah Naidu has been trying to cover up failures of BJP-led NDA Government to help the Telangana farmers. He alleged that the Centre has remained a mute spectator to suicide by nearly 1500 farmers since the formation of new State.
Ponguleti pointed that the previous UPA regime had waived off Rs. 72,000 Crore of crop loans across the country and nearly Rs. 13,000 crore of loans were of famers of the then united Andhra Pradesh. He said that the State Government should immediately declare the drought hit mandals and seek Central assistance. He also wanted farmers to be included in the market committees.
