Police foil Asha workers Chalo Secretariat rally Hyderabad, Oct 9 (INN): The City Police on Friday foiled the 'Chalo Secretariat' by taking several Asha workers into custody.
Demanding increase in salaries and other benefits, the Asha workers had proposed to take out 'Chalo Secretariat' rally on Friday. However, the police did not permit the rally and several Asha workers were arrested at RTC crossroads, Sundarayya Vignana Kendram and Indira Park where they staged sit-in protest. The agitation disrupted the traffic for several hours on RTC crossroads.
The arrested Asha workers were later shifted to Alwal, Gosha Mahal, Falaknuma, Gandhi Nagar, Bollaram and Tirmulgherry police stations. One of the Asha worker attempted suicide in the premises of Falaknuma Police Station. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
Those arrested include CITU State President Chaka Ramulu and other leaders of Left Parties.
The protesting Asha workers complained that they were being paid Rs. 400 per month for the last 10 years. However, they did not get any salary for the last 10 months. They said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had promised to increase their salaries during statehood movement. However, he forgot his promise after coming to power, they alleged.
