Ponguleti questions release of dues to Jalayagnam contractors Hyderabad, Oct 11 (INN): Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Sunday questioned the TRS Government's decision to release dues of nearly Rs. 3,000 crore to contractors of Jalayagnam projects.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises, Ponguleti said that the TRS, while in opposition, had accused of irregularities and scam. However, without ordering a probe into those irregularities, the TRS Government has decided to clear the dues which raise several suspicions. He sought to know whether any commission was discussed with the contractors for clearance of arrears.
Ponguleti said that the State Government must emulate neighbouring Karnataka Government in providing relief to the families of farmers who committed suicide. He said 541 farmers committed suicide in Karnataka and the State Government provided Rs. 5 lakh ex-gratia, pension to their widows and free education to their children besides settling their dues with private financiers. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should not make farmers suicides an ego issue and resolve it with a humanitarian approach.
