Detroit Reverberates with Bathukamma songs Detroit, MI, USA, Oct 17: History was made in Detroit as over 1500 Telanganites celebrated the 10thBathukamma, a colorful, traditional, and Telangana's very own festival. It was night filled with festive gaiety, religious fervor at the Farmington Hills St. Toma Church here on Saturday, October 17th, 2015.

The event was organized by Detroit Telangana Community (DTC) with the support of Telangana NRI Jagruthi, which attracted huge attendance never seen before, around 1500 people over from metro Detroit area, other cities within Michigan. It was exciting to see women folk in traditional and colorful attire, with joyful and cheery children being the center of attraction.

The night full of festivities started with Gauri Pooja and Jammi Pooja. It was a great visual treat to see women folk, young and old clad in colorful traditional attires singing and dancing around the beautifully decorated Bathukammas. As the women sang "Bathukamma Bathukamma Uyyaalo" and rhythmically clapped while singing and dancing around pyramid shaped heap of flowers, it was a visual treat to watch the scene. The most beautifully decorated Bathukammas received cash prizes in Individual and Group categories.
Ramgopal, President of Detroit Telangana Community (DTC) giving his welcome note, gave a brief overview of DTC activities to preserve and promote Telangana heritage, traditions and culture among all the people in metro Detroit area of Michigan State in the USA from past 10years. He also recognized the grand sponsors for the night Vinod Kukunoor, Kalyan Thirumala, Reliable Software Resources, Bharath Madadi and Pradeep Kandhala for their munificent contributions.
The Chief Guest for the occasion Balka Suman, MP, in his speech has appreciated the pivotal role played by NRI organizations in the Telangana Movement. He appealed to Telangana NRI community to show the same zeal in the development of Telangana in future. Suman has inaugurated the Souvenir brought out by DTC on the occasion of the 10th year Bathukamma. Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrashekar Rao has sent a written message on the occasion of the 10th Bathukamma celebrations in Detroit. Telangana Jagruthi President and MP K. Kavitha has sent a video message wishing DTC members and Detroit Telanganites on the occasion of celebrating the 10th Bathukamma celebration. NRI Telangana Jagruthi Executive President Sreedhar Bandaru also spoke on this occasion and conveyed Bathukamma and Dussera Wishes.
