Sustainability is the key to Development: LEAD India speakers
New Jersey: Development all over the World is picking up the pace and showing great results but sustaining it, is the key, said keynote speaker David O'Connor, Chief of the Policy and Analysis Branch of the Division for Sustainable Development at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs speaking at Dr. Kalam's Memorial Sustainable Development Conference held on 17th October at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
On the occasion of 84th Birth Anniversary of former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Lead India 2020 USA, organized Dr. Kalam's Memorial-'Sustainable Development' Conference on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at Rutgers University.
Hari Eppanapally, Chairman of the board of Lead India 2020 Foundation (USA) said that this conference was able to bring together NGOs, practitioners, researchers and educators from around the world who are engaged in'empowering and transforming youth into responsible citizens. Dr. Kalam's dream was to engage the youth in developing the nation with a focus on sustainable development through 'Spiritual Families', 'Affordable Quality Healthcare' and 'Affordable Quality Education', Mr. Eppanapally said in his inaugural address and requested all to join hands to realize it.
Srinivas Ganagoni, President of Lead India 2020 Foundation (USA) conducted the conference with the help of dedicated Conference Committee and advisors from planning to execution. Mr. Ganagoni said the entire conference was planned in less than 3weeks from start to finish in his welcome address at the conference. Mr. Ganagoni said that it is a huge success with 100 % speaker attendance and the stage was managed with high quality programs throughout the day without any interruption.
The keynote speaker, Mr. David O'Conner has stressed the need for sustaining the development by promoting cross cultural and cross country relationships to reduce tensions and conflicts, finding out ways that can work for the countries where the development is currently happening instead of importing systems and processes that were used in the developed countries, environmental friendly solutions, alternative energy sources, education that is directly useful to improve the quality of people's life such as good driving habits etc. Mr. O'Conner led the substantive support to the negotiation of the Rio+20 outcome document.
Lead India 2020 Foundation's Youth Committee Directors Sai Kumar Ganagoni and Vamshi Eppanapally MC'd the event started the program with singing of American and Indian national anthems followed by cultural programs performed by the students of Indira Dixit, Divya Yeluri and Srilaxmi Parcha.
The other key note speaker Dr. S. (Mani) Yegnasubramanian, Chairman of SVBF & HATCC emphasized the importance of spirituality how it is connected with individual development that leads to national development. Dr.Mani memorized the Dr. Kalam's humble back ground how he was able to become paper boy to missile man and because of his dedication and commitment he has been called as people's president with his dedication and vision. His values are inspirational to all of us.
Mr. Swamy Goud, Telangana Legislative Council Chairman as a Guest of Honor for the conference said, the Telangana government is committed to serve the people of Telangana and be part of the nation building support in all aspects of the development until we reach our goal. Mr. Goud congratulated the Lead India 2020 team for organizing such a wonderful conference with eminent personalities and discussing about the sustainable development.
Mr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay,'Consul General of India, New York'delivered a key note speech for the afternoon session and he said the Modi's Govt. is committed to do whatever it takes to improve the quality of the ordinary person in all these areas to see India as a developed nation in the global map.
Students of FIRST Robotics under the leadership of Dr. Kathryn Rogers exhibited the robot developed by them that can collect and move trash cans. Dr. Kathryn currently serves as the faculty advisor and mentor for multiple FIRST Robotics teams in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District. The teams are comprised of nearly 200 students each year ranging from grades K-12. The senior team is a current World Championship semi-finalist. The Speakers from Developing Spiritual families: Prof. MG Prasad (Steven's Institute of Technology), Vikas Chawla ( Art of Living), Aziz Nathoo (Aga Khan Foundation) and Shyam Baronia (BAPS), provided their valuable insight on how the spirituality is connected with the development and they all went through a detailed presentations on the screen to the audience. It was enlightening to see some of the facts they shared.
The speakers from Affordable Quality Healthcare: Dr. Meena Murthy (St. Peter's University Hospital), Mr. Francis Somerwell (Ekam Foundation - India), Dr. Horacio Rilo (Northshore LIJ Healthcare System), Dr. Pravin J. Mishra (Intermountain Healthcare System) gave their insight, facts and statistics on how the healthcare can be made affordable to developing and under developed countries and become sustainable.
The speakers from Affordable Quality Education, Commissioner Upendra Chivukula, Dr. Kishore Kuncham (Nasua County - Freeport Public Schools), Prof. William Graham (Rotary International) , Prof. Rajasekhar Vangapaty (Fashion Institute of Technology) gave a detailed report on how education can be made affordable to all in the world. The team strongly predicts that the present education system will undergo massive transformation and new avenues will arise in the education field that will provide quality and affordable education.
