National seed conclave in city from Tuesday Hyderabad Oct 26 (INN): A three-day 8th National Seed Conclave will commence at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on Tuesday, informed Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy here on Monday.
Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat, Pocharam said that the government was keen to come out with a "New Seed Policy' through the three-day event which will focus on better quality seed production and offer remunerative prices to the farm produce. Besides involving about 70 farmers, the conference will deal with their ideas and suggestions on current agriculture scenario, problems and steps to address their changing needs. The fallout will sure prove handy and prompt Telangana State becomes a 'Seed Bowl of India' as per the wish of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Srinivas Reddy remarked.
The platform will hold discussions on quality seed, sustainable agriculture development, increase agriculture production and enhance productivity on a whole he said. Innovative ideas and the use of best practices using latest equipment and technologies are some of the key factors that will be deliberated upon he maintained.
The Minister said that about 600 delegates including scientists, researchers, officials, stake holders and experts will attend the national conference. Telangana has major share of 60 per cent of national seeds exports and the program will rejuvenate its strength and prospects, he hoped. National seed production rose to 254 MTs in 2014 from 196 MTs in 2001, the minister stated.
Pocharam also informed that the government would soon announce the list of drought hit mandals in the State. Further, he said efforts were on to waive off the crop loans waiver dues at one go this year.
