49 dogs participate in 15th Passing Out Day Hyderabad, Oct 29 (INN): Telangana Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy on Thursday hailed the role of police dogs on par with policemen in protection of peace by quick detecting and foiling the attempts of terrorist and anti socials attacks and explosives on the society.
Participating in the 15th passing out parade of the police dogs organised by the intelligence security wing today as chief guest at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy, Moinabad, the Home Minister said it is a matter of pride to the state that police dogs from other states were also trained at the Academy which was launched in 2004.
The Home minister said that the Government has launched various welfare measures for police men which included sanctioning of Rs.350 crore for modernisation of force including vehicles, allocation of 10 % quota for policemen in the 2-BHK homes, and sanctioning of special allowance for police personnel working in Traffic, Security, CID and Intelligence wings. He later inaugurated the newly constructed 2nd floor administrative block. He also went round a special exhibition put up by the Intelligence wing to mark the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the DGP Anurag Sharma said that besides the police dogs of Tripura and Anurachal Pradesh, the dogs of the CRPF, BSF and the Octopus wings were also being trained at the Integrated Intelligence training Academy. He profusely thanked the Government for liberal sanction of funds to police department for enabling the departments efficient functioning.
IG Intelligence Shivdhar Reddy said that what began in 2004 with just training of 10 dogs in the academy had transformed into a fully fledged Security Academy spread over 78 acres at Moinabad in 2006 where now 364 dogs were trained so far in various aspects of security and detection to track terrorists, VIP security, smoke out bombs, explosives and drugs. The 15th batch which passed out today comprising of 49 dogs was given 8 month training. A veterinary doctor has also been placed at the Academy to monitor and take care of the health of the dogs, he said,
The passing out parade by the dogs besides the stunts and other feats like attack on criminals, tracking drugs, explosives etc enthralled the audience.
Pinky, a German Shepherd allocated to Nalgonda unit, Browny, a dobber man of Tirupati unit and Dolly, a police dog of Anantapur unit were awarded the first, second the third trophies by the Home Minister . He also presented certificates and awards to best dogs selected for Tracking, Explosives. Assaults and Narcotics categories
Mahesh Bhagwath, IG Security wing narrated the objective of the passing out parade of canines and said that out of 48 dogs participated in passing out parade today 20 belongs to Telangana State, 25 of AP and 4 of Tripura State. The handlers of these canines are 79. . Out of 49 canines 39 were trained in Explosives, 6 were trained in Trackers, 3 dogs were trained in Assaults and 1 trained in Narcotics.
Prominent among those who participated in the event were two Police Commissioners Mahender Reddy and C V Anand, Addl.DGPs Sudeep Laktakia, Satynarayana, Krishna Prasad and Gopi Krishna and several other IGs and their family members.
