Hyderabad, March 21 (INN): The University of Hyderabad now features among the World's Elite Institutions in 3 of the 42 subjects featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject.

As per this survey, UoH has been listed as one of the best universities to pursue higher studies in English Language and Literature, Chemistry and Physics. Incidentally UoH has also been among the Best Global Institutions ranked by the US News and Report agency for the year 2016 recently.

QS World University Rankings is a publication of university rankings, published annually by British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). As per QS, the world needs Universities and the core ambition of every university is to be more than just one thing, to be multidimensional. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are where some of these dimensions can be more ably perceived ' if the global rankings are a wide angle lens, the subject rankings are a rack of synchronous telephotos ' and they reveal a far more richly detailed picture.

This ranking consists of global overall and 42 subject-wise rankings. QS World University Rankings is considered as one of the three most significant and closely monitored university evaluations, along with Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times Higher Education World University Rankings. To compile these rankings, QS evaluated 4,226 universities, qualified 2,691 and ranked 945 institutions in total. Over 113 million citations attributions were analysed and QS verified the provision of over 15,530 programs.

The major criteria for the ranking are Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Research Impact.

In the English language and literature ranking, University of Hyderabad is the only university from India which could find a place among the best universities of the World. This means that University of Hyderabad is the best place in India to pursue higher studies in English language and Literature. In the 100 point index Department of English, UoH scored 56.2 points. National University of Singapore (NUS) has been listed as the best Asian University to pursue higher studies in English language and literature.

Banaras Hindu University and University of Delhi are the only two Universities along with UoH that finds a place in the World rankings. National University of Singapore (NUS) has been ranked as the best Asian University in this category as well.

School of Physics has for the first time found a prominent place in the World rankings. Out of the 100 point index, School of Physics, UoH scored 56.3. This is the first time all these years that the School of Physics has been ranked among the Best Institutions to study globally. The University of Tokyo has been ranked as the Best Asian University to pursue higher studies in Physics and Astronomy.

The survey by QS also shows that the Department of Communication is ranked at No 5; Political Science at No 4; Sociology at No 5 and Performing Arts at No 2 in India.

Prof. M Periasamy, In-charge Vice-Chancellor, on these world-wide rankings said, "I am happy that three of our Departments have got good score. The University plans to take measure for these departments to improve on their scores and other departments to catch up with their contemporaries in other institutions across the globe".
