Mobile revolution brings Hyderabad's kranti Hyderabad: The atmosphere at Peoples Plaza, Necklace Road, was electric with people expressing their protests against corruption displaying placards, shouting slogans delivering short speeches and lighting candles, symbolic of spreading the light of awareness.
College authorities played pied pipers sending out messages and circulars to the students to take part in the candle light march organised by the Hyderabad Chapter of India Against Corruption. The sms campaign hit a feverish pitch as 10,000 to 20,000 messages were sent out to mobilise the crowd to join the Candle Light March. Similarly, social media was in full steam.
Facebook, Twitter had hundreds of messages posted on the subject.
The Anna Hazare protest wave swept through Necklace Road, as more than two thousand protestors, mostly youngsters, descended at the People's Plaza, last evening demanding the implementation of the peoples version of the Jan Lok Pal Bill.
People started to assemble at the venue from 5 pm onwards chanting slogans and wearing placards that read 'I am Anna Hazare.' Youngsters of all hues joined in to raise their voice against corruption.
Students, businessmen, IT professionals, social activists, engineers, doctors, retired professionals, teachers, all joined hands even as some casual passersby joined the protests to do their bit in the anti-corruption drive.
The air was filled with patriotic fervor with people of all age groupschanting slogans like Ek do teen char, bandh karo yeh bhrashtachar. . . Anna Hazare aandhi hai, desh ka doosra Gandhi hai . . . We want Jan Lok Pal. . . Gali Gali mein shor hai, hamarey neta chor hai. . . Inquilab Zindabad .. .Vande Mataram that resonated across the Necklace road.
A large number of police personnel were deployed at the site to avoid any untoward incident. The candlelight vigil was initially planned to spread to various parts of the city but the participants had to be contend with taking out the march upto IMAX as they were denied permission to go beyond.
