Jagan looking to rejoin Cong? Hyderabad: It looks like YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy is all set to come back to the Congress fold. His meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Thursday fuelled the speculations. In normal circumstances, it is highly unlikely to get an appointment with Prime Minister in such a short time.
There are instances in the past that Telugu Desam party chief and opposition leader N.Chandrababu Naidu has never been granted audience by the PMO despite of repeated attempts. Even YS Jaganmohan Reddy could not get one when he staged a Rytu Deeksha in New Delhi a few months ago.
However, Jagan on Thursday managed to meet Manmohan Singh and had a brief talk. Analysts opined that it was a matter of time before a patch up could be worked out between the Congress and him. The arrest of Gali Janardhana Reddy seems to have warned Jagan about his future.
In an interview to a TV channel he admitted that he would like to support the UPA in the future rather than BJP. He also indirectly said that if there is no other option then he would support the Congress at the national level.
Handlooms and Textiles minister P Shankar Rao put his ministerial post on the line, by saying that he would quit politics if he was unable to convince Jagan to come back into the Congress fold 'within 10 days.' Shankar Rao's 'challenge,' however, came with a rider that the Congress high command should permit him to initiate 'counselling sessions' with Jaganmohan Reddy.
Member of parliament Madhu Yashki also commented that under the pretext of talking to leaders of Opposition Jagan was negotiating with some of the Congress leaders at the Centre.
Even the TDP MLA Revanth Reddy claimed that Jagan will re-join the Congress party in the near future. He said that the chances of Jagan going back to Congress have increased especially after the CBI started probing his illegal wealth and MLAs supporting him have started doing a U turn.
On the other hand despite his strong criticism of Congress however, Jagan said he would still consider tying up with the UPA for the 'welfare of the state.' He said there was no possibility of rejoining the Congress, but did not rule out a possible future alliance if that was in the best interests of Andhra Pradesh. The analysts read this as saying that if there was an imminent arrest by the CBI, Jagan would negotiate with the Congress high command.
Jagan, who has come into the spotlight after the arrest of the Gali brothers, lashed out at the Congress for tainting the memory of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who served the party for 30 years. He also accused the CBI of being hell bent on proving a connection between Janardhana and himself.
