Gali enjoys VIP status in jail Hyderabad: Illegal mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy may be missing his golden chair at home, but he is spending most of his time allegedly in the prison superintendent's room inside the Chanchalguda prison.
Prison sources told that Janardhan Reddy, his associate Srinivasa Reddy (who is his cousin) and Satyam scamster Ramalinga Raju are spending most of their time at the superintendent's airconditioned room. They are going back to their barracks only to have food and to sleep.
Sources said Reddy's aides have met the prison authorities even before he was brought to Hyderabad and entered into a 'deal' to ensure maximum comfort for the mining baron during his 'stay' at the prison.
Gali and his kin were receiving their visitors at the superintendent's room and also getting access to the communication gadgets without any interruption, sources said.
According to prison rules, all the inmates of the prison must be locked up by 6 pm. The locks will be opened only the next morning, except in case of some emergency. However, the two Reddys have been 'unofficially' exempted from the general rules and are being allowed to stay at superintendent's room till 9 pm every day, sources say.
They have been moved into a small barracks in B-Block a day after their admission. Two petty offenders already lodged in the prison but have some good conduct, have been put in the same barracks to attend to the two VIPs.
The assistants would bring water, wash clothes and arrange the bedding for them. Also, they were not taking the prison food as claimed by the prison authorities.
Instead, they were taking milk, fruits and cooked food brought in by the visitors, notwithstanding the fact that cooked food from outside were not allowed into the jail.
Chanchalguda jail is notorious for giving special treatment to highprofile criminals like Venkateswar Rao of Krushi Bank, Satyam Ramalinga Raju and now the Reddys.
