A do-or-die battle for TDP: Naidu Nellore: The general election in 2014 will be a do or die battle for the Telugu Desam, party president N Chandrababu Naidu has declared. At a meeting held to review the party's functioning in the Nellore parliamentary constituency here on Thursday, he sounded a note of caution to his party leaders: 'Work hard for the party. The 2014 election will be a doordie situation for it. It will be a `now or never' situation. If we fail to improve, the party will suffer a lot in the future.'
Naidu said some TDP leaders from the Nellore Town and Rural Assembly segments were rubbing shoulders with Sridhar Krishna Reddy and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy. 'I will not tolerate such people and they will be shown the door if they do not mend their ways,' he warned.
Though Naidu appealed to party leaders to sink their differences, former MLA from Atmakur Kommi Lakshmi Naidu finally decided to call it quits. Lakshmi Naidu, who was very close to NT Rama Rao and is so to the present party chief, decided to quit the party over serious differences with Nellore district TDP president Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy. Lakshmi Naidu announced in Atmakur that he would decided his future course of action in a day or two after consulting his followers.
The announcement came as a shock to the TDP at a time when its president was touring the district to strengthen the party. On the final day of Naidu's tour Lakshmi Naidu left the party, accusing the party chief of not respecting senior leaders and being misled by a coterie. Lakshmi Naidu is likely to join the YSR Congress.
The TDP chief criticised Nellore leaders for not focusing on the pressing problems or fight against corruption. 'Several Indiramma houses were constructed with ash. The quality of houses is inferior. But no leader fought against this. I will not tolerate such attitude,' he fumed.
Naidu declared that Yerramreddy Govardhan Reddy as the candidate for Kovur Assembly constituency in the 2014 election. Kovur TDP MLA N Prasanna Kumar Reddy has switched his loyalty to YSRC leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy. 'Though Prasanna is very close to Balakrishna, I will not readmit him to the party,' Naidu declared.
During the nine hour long review, a TDP worker levelled serious allegations against Kommi Lakshmi Naidu's style of functioning. Not taking the criticism lightly, a follower of Lakshmi Naidu ran towards speaker and both clashed in the presence of party chief.
