Komatireddy clears way for Uttam? Nalgonda: As the resignation by Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has been accepted by the Governor, it has rekindled the hopes of local Congress leaders to get a berth in the Cabinet at least in the near future, if not immediately.
Mr Venkat Reddy had submitted his resignation on October 1. On Wednesday, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy forwarded his resignation to the Governor with a recommendation to accept the same.
Under the new circumstances, a few leaders from the party in the district are hopeful that they may get a chance to be included in the Cabinet in the near future. There are three groups in the Congress party in the district and they are lead by Mr Komatireddy, Mr Ramreddy Damodar Reddy and Mr Jana Reddy.
When Congress came to power in the State, it appeared to be a tough task for the then Chief Minister as to accommodate which group in the Council of Ministers. Mr Jana Reddy, Mr Damodar Reddy and Mr Uttamkumar Reddy tried to secure berths in the Cabinet.
However, the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy decided upon Mr Komatireddy Venkatreddy as he was closer to him than others. Since then, Mr Venkat Reddy had a say in the district party affairs as well as the administration. His group had dominated both the party as the official postings in the district.
Various schemes were implemented as per his group's diktats, sources say. However, the continuous pressure from TRS and Telangana activists from the district on the Minister made him take up the cause of Telangana.
For the last three months, he had been actively taking up the T issues and publicly blaming the Government on a number of issues. He had also said that he was ready to quit for Telangana and did so on October 1.
Later, he held a massive public meeting to present a picture that he was a staunch supporter of the separate Telangana state. According to sources, former minister Damodar Reddy, Aleru MLA Bikshamaiah Goud, Devarakonda MLA Balunaik, Huzurnagar MLA Uttamkumar Reddy and former MLA Purushotham Reddy reportedly held a meeting in Hyderabad and discussed the chances of one of them becoming a minister.
They were also said to have discussed the strategies to be followed by the party in the district. However, when contacted, an MLA said that they had gone to Hyderabad only to attend a private function and that they did not discuss any political issues.
Asked why they stayed away from the public meeting organized by Mr Komatireddy, he said that as there was no invitation from Mr Komatireddy to attend the meeting, they did not attend it. As for the chances of aspirants, for a long time Mr Uttamkumar Reddy has been maintaining good relations with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
He stands a good chance, say observers. Alair MLA Boodida Lakshmaiah is the only MLA belonging to BC community from the district. Hence, his candidature is also sure to be considered by the Chief Minister. Both the leaders will be in the race for Cabinet berth in case the Chief Minister proposes to fill up the vacancy created by Mr Venkatreddy's resignation, the sources added.
